Meet Murry

Have you ever wondered what a dog would be like if they had the friendly, goofy, outgoing temperament of a pittie with the brains, athleticism, and stubbornness of a border collie? Then today's your lucky day - meet Murry!

Murry may be the smartest dog that I've fostered while also being a total airhead. He can learn just about any trick in 15 minutes no matter how complicated, but you have to be prepared to spend half of the time getting him to pay attention because he's so always so excited to get a treat or a toy. He loves to work on agility and always has a blast trying to herd his foster-sibling while they run and wrestle at home. I learned that he tries thinking 10 steps ahead when I taught him to shake - now I have to be ready for him to swat me whenever I have a treat because he likes to give it a shot just in case I'm thinking about asking him to shake my hand. He's almost too friendly, loving to sit on your lap and kiss your face even though he's a chunky 60 pound boy.

His "too smart for his own good" personality extended to walks when I brought him home. He'd go crazy any time we saw a squirrel or another dog on a walk but now he's able to control himself even if a squirrel runs just a few feet in front of us. He's much better at not pulling on leash too, usually settling down after a couple of minutes. He's totally crate trained but has been trustworthy enough to leave out of his crate while I'm at work, and learned to tell me when he needs to go to the bathroom.

Murry loves other dogs but is learning how to be a gentler playmate with them. He and Paco love wrestling and playing hard with each other, but most other dogs don't enjoy it so he'll need to either tolerant playmates or to be an only dog. He's a lot calmer and more relaxed when he's the only dog at home. He should do well with kids although he'll probably be best with older kids so he doesn't knock them over by mistake.
