Meet Mulligan

Who loves snuggly, goofy playful big boys and has soft couches for him to flop onto?
If you do, Mulligan is your man! Note-must also love slobber ;)

This adorable sweet boy is a 2yr old, male Black and Tan Coonhound and adores all people incl seniors and respectful children, and adores all dogs he has met while out on hikes and visits with dog friends.

Mulligan also loves every toy and treat his fellow foster friends may be enjoying, and is still learning his manners to not steal food or try to take toys from other dogs.
Although he is a goofy friendly boy meeting other dogs, and loves to play outdoors and go hiking with canine friends, we are seeing that he would prefer to be the only pet in the home as he adores having all of the attention for himself, and is not great at sharing his prized treats and toys with other pets.

Mulligan wins hearts wherever he goes with his sweet slobbery face, his absolute kindness and love for all humans and naive, goofy puppy mannerisms even though he is now 2yrs old, he is still very young at heart.

Mulligan is working hard on his obedience skills but still learning, so his adoptive family will be required (mandatory) to register for positive based training classes as part of his adoption contract with proof of registration prior to him joining their home.

Mulligan has shown some "confinement" anxiety ie he is happy to go into his crate with the door open and often will choose to do so on his own, but if he is confined in his crate with the door closed when his foster family leaves, he becomes very anxious and tries to break out sometimes.

His foster has done trial outings (with pet cameras for supervision) with Mulligan left out of his crate while they go out and at bedtime and he is rocking this option, choosing the soft couch to sleep on happily, not getting into anything that he shouldn't (tries counter surfing but of course the foster family makes sure there is nothing to find or take) and Mulligan is not destroying anything in the home during these unsupervised times.

He loves chewies which keep him busy (bully sticks, tendons, cow tails , stuffed frozen treats, treat balls etc) and settles very well when he is provided with adequate exercise and outings prior to being left alone.

We are seeking a family who has hands on, previous knowledge and experience with working and hound breeds, as adult owners vs just growing up with them, they are a unique dog who have quirks that experienced hound families will appreciate but inexperienced homes may find challenging, such as the need to always follow his nose wherever it goes! He would thrive doing scent work for fun in training classes.

A fully fenced yard in a detached home is required for this sweet boy, he is not suitable for apartments or unfenced yards.

He is still learning that food is not always for him, and will steal off surfaces he can reach, so a well dog-proofed home will be needed while he continues to learn appropriate manners. Mulligan is being taught to leave it in his foster home and is making great progress with his training and socializing.

Mulligan loves car rides, does not get motion sick and has been on many adventures since he travels so well.

He was found stray in a rural community and unclaimed, so the pound surrendered him to our care to provide his full vetting, and help him find his ideal forever family.

Please read his entire profile before applying to ensure that your family meets his requirements. An adoption application must be submitted to be considered. If the dog's listing is still showing, they are still accepting applications.

Only applicants who meet each dog's criteria for their ideal forever home will be contacted. You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.

A fenced, secure yard is mandatory for a house as hounds do love to follow their noses. We do not permit electronic fencing nor tie outs as an alternative.

Pools/hot tubs and ponds must be separately fenced away from the yard to prevent access by dogs. We don't feel that he is an ideal candidate for attached housing due to his depth of bark, even though he isn't a nuisance barker.

Notes:
We require vet references, a home visit (zoom meetings during covid) and two meetings with the dogs for approved applicants, one meeting to meet the dog once you are approved to adopt, and then a cooling off period of 24-48 hrs prior to the second meeting which is the adoption. ALL meetings take place in St Jacobs ON, no exceptions.

Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission in writing.

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please apply online here https://www.cognitoforms.com/HoboHavenPetRescue/HoboHavenRescueCanineAdoptionQuestionnaire

Mulligan's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $600. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dentals if required, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who took the time to read the dog's entire profile to ensure that their family does meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, I work full time 6 days a week in addition to my rescue responsibilities, and I am not able to answer my phone during work hours
Emails will be answered within 24-48 hours if criteria above is met.
