Meet Monty

Poor sweet Monty has had a tough time of it and is looking for a kind, selfless family to care for him the last 1-2 years of his life. Monty was already micro-chipped when we got him from the shelter but the chip was a dead end and no one came to claim him. The chip tells us he's 14 years old and he's about 15 pounds. He was incredibly matted, revealing years of neglect, and was found wandering around in the cold in Lake Station, IN.

We did blood-work on Monty to see if he was in good enough shape for a much needed dental and shave-down, and it came back quite good for his age. So he was recently sedated and had 18 teeth pulled, as well as a good grooming. He's quite healthy for his age and his checkup revealed no other issues except for arthritis, which is expected at his age.

Monty is a quiet easy dog who loves a bit of loving on and ear scratches. He lives with a dominant Chihuahua brother and playful active sister and does fine with them. He mostly wants a nice comfy place to sleep and a bit of loving.

From Monty's foster Mom: "Monty went from sick with bad teeth and matted hair to feeling good and 18 fewer teeth. He loves the outdoors and will stay outside for hours. He just takes a stroll around the yard and finds his comfy spot and lays down and watches the world go by. He is house trained and will let you know when he wants outside. He also has a healthy appetite and takes long naps. I have dog beds all over my house but Monty loves his bed in the wire crate in the kitchen. Also, his eyesight isn't too good and his hearing is almost gone. Monty isn't a lap dog but will lay beside you on the sofa. He loves his head and ears rubbed. All in all, he is a low maintenance, old man. I named him Monty but I think Goober would have been a better name as he trips up the two steps I have out the back door, and he has the cutest jog when he runs."

Monty is neutered, had a dental, is up-to-date on vaccines (rabies, distemper, bordatella), has tested negative for heartworms, had a negative fecal test, and is micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $150, this helps cover some of the cost of his vetting.

The first step to adopt Monty is to read all about adoption with Happy Tails Rescue Inc. and fill out an application. If we think your home sounds like a match we'll be in touch. Copy this link to go to our web site:

Happy Tails Rescue Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit foster-based rescue based in Northwest Indiana. We have no shelter, all of our animals are cared for in loving foster homes until their forever home match is found. All of our animals are fully vetted before adoption, including distemper, rabies, and bordatella vaccines, a heartworm test, fecal test, microchip, and are spayed/neutered. If you're interested in meeting one of our animals please fill out an application first. If approved we will then arrange a meet and greet. Happy Tails does not do same day adoptions because we do a short home visit to make sure our animals are being placed in safe environments.
