Meet misty

Misty is around 2 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. If you knew nothing about Misty's history and you were female and met her you would say that she is the most joyful dog on the planet.Misty walks beautifully on a leash, knows some commands, is quiet in her kennel, loves dinnertime and snack time and rides well in a car. Misty is the last of a sibling group that we were able to save from an abusive and neglectful house. Sadly those 2 years of abuse have left a lingering impact on Misty and because of this she will need a very specific home. Misty has a deep rooted fear of men which she expresses in the form of aggression towards them, therefore living with men, or even interacting with them is very challenging for her. When afraid she will bury her head in the corner of her kennel as if wanting to be invisible. Misty needs a FEMALE ONLY HOUSEHOLD WITH NO CATS OR CHILDREN that is willing and able to respect and understand her fear of men and work with her over time. In her foster home in Texas she did well having a crate as a safe place for her in the home and it is strongly recommended that a crate remains part of her routine, as she will need to spend time in there if male visitors enter the house. Misty has lived with other dogs and has done very well. She walks great on leash, loves the snow, and craves kind attention. In her foster home Misty learned to trust the husband enough to be loose in the yard and take treats from him. We have had a professional trainer evaluate her. He does not feel that she is hopeless. He does feel that dealing with her fear of men will be a very long process. We are at an impasse here. Misty was sent to us knowing all of this history but not sharing it with us. We are nearly all women in this rescue. As such there is no environment in which to work with her.
