Meet MISSY
Meet Missy a beautiful terrier mix about 2 yrs old who arrived here shut down and scared. She was going to be euthanized lack of space and for her shyness.as well. Missy had what is called a diaphragmatic hernia, which occurs when one or more of the dog’s abdominal organs move upward into their chest through a defect (opening) in the diaphragm. The diaphragm is a dome-shaped muscular barrier between the chest and abdominal cavities. It separates the heart and lungs from the abdominal organs: stomach, intestines, spleen, and liver. This kind of defect can be present at birth or acquired later in life. It is always a medical emergency and requires prompt surgery. In Missy’s case, you can’t see her lungs or her heart. As a matter of fact, her liver is where her heart should be. Her organs are basically squished way up to the top of her chest, which is why she can’t breathe well. Yikes, I know it’s a lot to digest and it sounds like a rough thing for a dog. On February 6th, Missy will underwent surgery to move her organs back into place, which should make her breathing function a lot easier.
Her surgery has been a success. She has been monitored continuously and we’re now at the next stage. Per the vet she should not go home with kids that are going to squeeze her. She gets along with other dogs if they ignore her and do not get in her face. She is scared of them as she is with cats.
She is the perfect walking friend on a leash and would be ideal with no other dogs. She loves to play with toys and loves treats. She appears to be housebroken. Please put up your slippers or shoes she has not learned she should not take those. Missy's adoption fee is $225
At this time ARF does not adopt out of state.
