Meet Miss Jasmine

Hi! My name is Jasmine and I am looking for a family of my own to create memories with. I was hoping you would take some time to get to know me and see if we could be the perfect match! I am a shy and affectionate 2-year old American Staffordshire Terrier/Rottweiler mix. I have my basic commands down and I am eager to please. My favorite activities include tug-o-war, water games, and cuddling in bed.

You might be wondering how I came to live with my foster family at the Miss Gabriel Foundation. It all started when I was just eight weeks old. My seven siblings and I were rescued from a hoarding situation in California and it was essential for us to find a place that could handle our various medical needs. We were all underweight and sick with bacterial infections and needed to be put on antibiotics right away. Our bodies were covered in painful bite wounds and abscess wounds, and I had scars from previous bite marks on my face and underbelly.

Despite everything I went through, I am a sweet and caring pup who loves spending time with humans. I am a loyal girl who will watch over your every movement. I am very comfortable with women but require a little more patience from men. If you are nice it won’t take me long to warm up to you! I haven’t had much experience with children, but I seem to be afraid of them.

I am a very good girl inside the house and do well when left home alone. However, I take my outside time very seriously and might bark, pace, or scratch at the door when I am ready for some fresh air. Once outside I enjoy the occasional sunbath, but really, it’s a place for me to find exciting new things to add to my collections.

I tend to be reactive to all types of excitement, especially other animals. If there is wildlife on the other side of the fence, I will let you know it. I’ve never been one to back down from chasing a cat and I’ve heard rumors you should keep them away from me. When I see unfamiliar dogs, my instincts are to stare them down and stiffen my muscles. I will guard my food and toys from other dogs and snap or snarl at them if they appear to want what I have.

Unfortunately, excitement isn’t the best thing for me. I have hip dysplasia and while I am strong, I require a home with a sedentary lifestyle. I shouldn’t go to dog parks, or on long walks or hikes to keep my hips in good shape. I should be the only dog unless the other dog is elderly and not likely to tempt me into playing rough. I am on daily joint supplements and have a prescription for medication to help when I am showing discomfort. With proper weight management, continued joint supplements, and exercise modifications I can live to be an old lady.

I am allergic to chicken and I'm required to be on a diet with limited or no grain foods while also avoiding beef. I am an otherwise healthy and happy pup who wants nothing more than a family to share my love with. Historically, black dogs, especially black pit bulls, have been hard to adopt. If you think we would make a good match please fill out an application for adoption. I look forward to meeting you!
