Meet Mischa

Welcome Mischa!

This darling wee girl joined our rescue as an unclaimed stray, witnessed being discarded from a vehicle in a downtown area.
She was bald in many areas of her skin with severe dry flaking and clearly not well cared for prior to being abandoned
High quality food and supplements along with frequent bathing and grooming has this precious girl doing so much better now, with her coat grown almost totally back in, softer and healthier.

She is an approx 5yrs young, 6kg female, spayed and dental/all vetting now completed.

Breed mix is unknown, Pomeranian, Chihuahua, and other mixes sprinkled in with her unique appearance are likely with potential breed mixes of: Schnauzer, Kelpie etc.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE INTRODUCE YOURSELF PETFINDER OPTION,

Mischa's profile from her foster mom
YOUR FOSTER DOG'S NAME: Mischa

YOUR FOSTER DOG'S ENERGY LEVEL: medium Mischa is very active in nice weather! She loves to go for a walk when it's not raining/snowy or blowy.
These walks are varied based on our schedule. The shorter walks are 15-20 minutes (up to 1.5km) and the longer walk is up to 3km.

When the weather doesn't permit as much walking, we play indoors.
Mischa loves to play fetch with a ball and play tug with you! If we're working on a new skill, we do a 10 minute training session per day.

For mental stimulation, we offer food puzzles, stuffing treats into a Mega Last bone and working on additional training for longer time periods (up to 10 minutes a couple times that day).

Mischa is very food motivated

GOOD WITH DOGS? Mischa has been living in her foster home with another foster dog. She coexists with her well, but she would prefer a home with no other dogs to be queen of her castle. People are her absolute favourite!

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO DOGS MET ON WALKS?

Mischa is reactive when passing directly by another dog (on the same sidewalk) while on a leash when we're out for a walk.
She doesn't react to dogs who are out walking on the other side of the street. Mischa can be redirected while walking by saying her name and rewarding her for not engaging with the dog as she passes by.

Mandatory registration with an approved trainer will be part of Mischa's adoption contract to set her up for success and continue to work on her training and socialization skills

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO DOGS SEEN FROM THE YARD OR INSIDE THE HOME? Mischa has had one encounter with a dog on the other side of our fence and she barked a lot. We haven't been able to spend lot of time outside in the backyard because of the cold weather to work on her skills in this regard

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO PEOPLE MET ON WALKS? Mischa is so friendly and loves to meet all the humans when we're out walking! Mischa has had the opportunity to meet a lot of visitors at our home. She has welcomed all of them with her bum shake and tail wag :) She is always friendly.

She lives in a home with an 8yo and 12yo and is great with older respectful kids.

GOOD WITH CATS? Unknown -not recommended

GUARDING ISSUES? None.

HOUSETRAINED? Yes

CRATE TRAINED? No The crate is very stressful for Mischa both in the home and in a car and because of that we do not crate her. Because she isn't destructive, there really is no need to crate her when we go out. When she travels in the car, we use a seat belt clip with a harness in the backseat for her.

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S LEASH SKILLS.
Mischa is great on a leash, but pulls a little because she walks fast.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG REACT WHEN YOU TOUCH THE EARS, TAIL, PAWS ETC.
Mischa isn't bothered by us touching her ears, tail or paws, however, she does not like having her nails trimmed and is very stressed during nail trims, but not aggressive. We use CBD oil for helping her with this anxiety during nail trims, no muzzle needed

PERSONALITY?
Mischa has the greatest personality. When you come home after a short outing, she greets you as if she hasn't seen you in days. She cries with excitement.

Her tail is always wagging while her bum shakes. If ever given an opportunity to cuddle with you, she's taking it. She loves to sit on your lap or your chest no matter what you're doing.
Working from home? This girl will be the star of your meetings. She loves to curl up on my lap while i work away the day.

FEEDING ROUTINES: Mischa gets very vocal while you are preparing her food. Since her spay surgery, she has calmed down a lot and now just sits and "talks" while you mix it up. Mischa is asked to sit and wait while we place her bowl down. We release the wait command with a "break" command and she eats.
Mischa also eats quickly and we sometimes use a slow feeder.

SIT? Yes STAY? Not yet WAIT? Yes LAY DOWN? Not yet LEAVE IT? Yes
OFF? Not yet DOWN? Not yet COME? Yes

BED TIME HABITS? Mischa sleeps in her own bed on the floor beside our bed and bed time is typically between 9:30-10:00pm. Mischa would LOVE to sleep in a bed with someone if that suits you. It doesn't work for us, and she has been content on the floor. She usually wakes around 7:30am.

OTHER HABITS/ROUTINES THAT WILL HELP THE DOG SETTLE INTO THEIR NEW HOME:
Mischa isn't used to being left alone for any extended period of time The longest she has been left on her own is 2.5 hours.

Mischa is not an early riser. I go to the home gym every morning at 5:45am and Mischa is happy to stay in her bed until I am finished and often doesn't come out to say good morning until she hears movement from others, sometimes as late as 7:30am.

QUIRKS/CHALLENGES/AREAS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT: Mischa is a vocal dog. She gives a little howl or bark if she hears someone coming into the house. She sometimes barks if there is a knock at the door but not always. She likes to howl while you prepare her food-more training needed in this area, and she talks a lot when she welcomes you home.

STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON: Mischa is super smart! She's learned a number of commands while in the rescue.

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE PERFECT ADOPTIVE HOME FOR YOUR FOSTER DOG BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED.
Mischa would do best in a home with no other dogs where all of the love and affection would be for her. She loves to walk when the weather is good, so she needs to be with someone who is active.

Mischa is very smart and I think she would love to do some agility for fun!

ANYTHING TO ADD? Mischa has so much love to give and just wants to be near you. If you're cuddling on the couch, so is she. She isn't bothered by loud noises like vacuums or blenders and also doesn't react to fireworks for thunderstorms. She's a dream and deserves all the love in the world.

* Mischa is not a suitable match for older seniors/geriatric owners. Our goal is to place our dogs in homes where they will not ever need to be rehomed again and may receive the quality of care that they deserve for their entire lives.
*Must be located within Ontario Canada

Mischa's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $650-we have invested far more than that
Adoption fees do not begin to cover our expenses for their full vetting and dental surgery, which includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.

All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.
