Meet Mira

Mira was rescued after spending 5 months( at animal control awaiting her previous owners’ court case. She was initially confiscated by police on animal cruelty charges, and thankfully was relinquished into our care. Now that she is safe and well, she is seeking a loving home.

Mira turns 9 years old in February, but don’t let that fool you- this gal says age is just a number! She comfortably jumps in the back seat of the car, runs up and down the house stairs, walks healthy distances, and enjoys a few minutes of backyard zoomies. She is a great work-from-home companion as she is quiet (rarely barks) and will settle for long naps while you work at your desk or relax on the couch. She does have a dramatic “thud” when she decides to lay down, so downstairs neighbors might notice that.

Mira weighs just under 80 lbs and is house-trained. She’ll politely lick herself to let you know when she needs to go out. She hasn’t shown any interest in toys or balls, but she loves walks. We know that she previously lived with other dogs and cats, but she is currently fostered as an only pet and is doing well in that environment too. When her foster mom has taken her for a walk with neighbor dogs, Mira will correct obnoxious behavior from other dogs and prefers the company of calmer dogs that are more interested in sniffing than playing or jumping.

Mira loves her person and will follow you around everywhere you go. She has some separation anxiety when you leave the house without her, so she would prefer a family who spends a lot of time at home. Her anxiety presents through her whining from her crate when you’re gone. She requires a durable crate (e.g., Impact) as she’s smart enough to break out of the wire crates and has seized the opportunity to garbage surf when left home alone uncrated.

Mira had a mammary tumor removed during her recent spay surgery, and while the doctors noted that the tumor was malignant, they were confident that they removed it all! She is taking a preventative joint supplement given her age and showcased some mild allergies during her first few weeks of rescue (a cytopoint injection, baths, and no poultry helped).

Mira is a sweet soul. She is submissive and would benefit from a calm household. She has accepted new people into the home, but she is sometimes a little scared by lots of commotion or certain strangers (e.g., certain men). She is learning what affection is from her foster family, but she isn’t super affectionate, especially if she doesn’t know you. She would likely do best in a home with older or no children. Mira is treat-motivated and knows how to sit and wait for her leash.

Mira is a sweet senior gal who overcame a tough life. Despite that, she is a kind soul that deserves a second chance. In this next chapter of her life, she would love a comfy dog bed, companionship, and a few good walks.
