Meet Milo

Meet Milo!!!
MILO is an approx. 9-month old, male Jack Russel mix. He is recently neutered
and UTD on shots. He is a shortie and really, really cute! Milo is very active and
would need a fenced yard, regular activity and exercise and would enjoy being
given a purpose. He has a prey drive so we don't recommend him for homes with cats , small animals or children, He does well on walks but has not had the opportunity to become very close in proximity to an unknown dog while harnessed. When he sees them in the not too far distance, he is just excited and can be redirected to keep walking. He is friendly with other dogs and would do best with a dog in the same home that has a similar activity level or bigger in size or an alpha personality to put Milo in his place when needed.
Milo is fed in a separate gated off area so that he does not attempt to eat the others dog’s food. He has easily learned this routine. Milo has no problem getting his paws wiped off or even getting a rinse down in the sink when coming in from outside when muddy. Milo has learned the routine of sitting and waiting for his turn to get a treat (he is 4th in line). He enjoys toys and will readily return a thown ball over and over.
Immediately after neutering and while still in week 2 and 3 in his foster home,
Milo did show increased rough play that looked somewhat aggressive towards a
small, non-alpha, older dog in the home. At times, he would need to be separated as the older dog got grumpy back. Over the following week or two Milo has begun responding to stern scolding to stop this behavior and hasn’t needed to be separated.
Another behavior noted that increased immediately after neutering but has since greatly decreased, is the guarding of random objects. He does not guard his food, bones or toys from his fosters but had shown behaviors that included growling and posturing when ‘caught’ with random items, especially shoes and clothes. He can be distracted by ignoring him, throwing a toy or treat to refocus his attention or by just about anything that distracts him for a moment. He has not destroyed those items but will chew on and pull the stuffing out of his beds. He has not done that to the more pad (non-stuffed) style beds that are in the house.
Milo can start to get a bit chippy when he is tired. He appears to have a pretty
firm 9:00 bed time. He sleeps best gated off in the laundry room with an open
crate and his bed and toys and will sleep the full night without needing to go
outside.
Milo is kept busy with heavy chew bones and toys and physical activity in and
outside the home.

MAJR is a small foster based rescue . All of our dogs live with foster families. We do not have a kennel where you can meet the dogs. Milo is currently in Newark , Delaware . If you are interested in adopting Milo, please fill out an adoption application on our website MAJR.org
