On paperwork her name is Millie, however, her foster home has been calling her Birdie. Millie is from a puppy mill and was discard when they were no longer using her for breeding. Her foster family felt like the name Millie was too close to puppymill and wanted to put that old life behind her. Birdie is a 6-7 year old standard poodle. She impressed her foster home and appears to be completely potty trained. She also enjoys her crate and will go there when she wants her space and to hoard her toys and whatever else she wants to chew on. Birdie does steal things like clothing, shoes, blankets etc to will shred them if left unattended and she should be crated whenever she would be left alone. Birdie needs to be in a home with another dog that can help support her and build her confidence. She is currently very attached to her foster brother and enjoys playing in the yard with him and going for walks but without another dog she is very nervous and flighty. She will need time with her people to warm up to them and warms up quicker if another dog shows her that the new people are good. We would recommend a home with older children or adults only and she does spook easily. She shows high prey drive when it comes to squirrels and birds, it is unclear how she would do with cats. When she warms up she does enjoy being pet but runs away if you touch her without her being aware that, that is something you were going to do. Birdie has so much potential as she continues to grow and gain confidence in herself.

We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs and require home visits. Must live in area to adopt, will not respond to out of area/country requests. Additionally, if fencing is required it must be a physical fence and in place at time of home visit.
