Meet Millicent

Millicent was surrendered when her owner passed away. The family wasn't able to keep this living legacy of their loved one so we are honoring her memory by rehoming responsibly.

With a guesstimated birthday in Dec. 2019, Millicent weighed 44 lb at her spay in June 2021.

Millicent is house-trained when kept on a regular schedule. She has learned that crates are safe places and will enter without a fuss - especially once a routine is established of time with her family. She's leash-savvy, but will pull when excited. She likes car rides and ignores the cats in her foster home.

Millicent is learning to tolerate people in her face. This wasn't something she experienced at her elderly owner's as a puppy, so is adjusting to the reality of living with affectionate people. Due to this ongoing experiential learning, she should be supervised when around small children - not because of her, but children don't understand they shouldn't get in a dog's face. Her new family must advocate for Millicent's comfort. She would prefer a quiet, predictable home environment at this time of her socialization.

Millicent likes polite dogs, after the initial introduction. She feels the same about people, taking a few minutes to warm up. Once she acclimated to her foster - within a few hours - she was devoted to spending time with her. Millicent likes to play with people as well as other like-minded, energetic dogs and loves being outside with her people on adventures and explores.

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is
