Meet Milkshake
Milkshake is a special girl looking for a special owner.
Milkshake is a 3-4 year old, 56 pound border collie/lab mix who came to the rescue in early 2021 with skin issues and fur loss that resolved beautifully with treatment and left her with gorgeous, shiny black fur that has a beautiful red tone to it when the sunlight hits it just right.
Milkshake is the definition of someone’s “ride or die” companion. She is extremely loyal, protective and is eager to please her people. She loves to play ball and go for car rides…this girl is always ready for adventure! She gets along with small, submissive dogs (her foster home has two) but may appreciate having a home with no other pets so she can be the star of the show. Milkshake is looking for a home with a fenced backyard and no children.
She has thrived in her foster home, learning to appreciate crate time and working on her basic command training. But we have found that Milkshake struggles with urinary incontinence. To be clear, this isn’t a matter of housetraining or a behavioral issue on her part - it’s beyond her control.
Red Barn Rescue has consulted with multiple vets and specialists. No expense was spared trying to treat her condition with medication, and even surgery at NC State Internal Medicine. Unfortunately, even after the surgery we were so hopeful would help, Milkshake continues to have an incontinence issue. It doesn’t slow her down though! Her foster simply has her wear a washable (and fashionable!) diaper when indoors. She takes it off outside so Milkshake can play unencumbered and do “her business”, and puts a diaper on when she comes inside. Milkshake is used to this routine so it’s not a burden on her…it’s her norm. We are just hoping that this beautiful, loyal dog is able to find someone who will appreciate that she is worth that extra step and will apply to be her forever home.
Milkshake is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Our $300 adoption fee helps to cover these expenses.
