Meet Miley

Now that Miley is settling into a routine and getting comfortable, she is letting down her guard a bit and showing her true colors! She as been such a joy to have and is such an affectionate little girl. She respects the boundaries we have established, but is always testing the limits to see what she can get away with....just like any youngster! Consistency is the key to keeping us all happy!!!

Miley has been enjoying the outdoors as much as possible now that the snow is finally gone! She loves running around the yard, so having a fenced yard is a big plus with her! She gets good exercise on our walks, but she still has plenty of energy to run along the fence line with the neighbor dogs! Miley has made a lot of doggie friends while staying with me and I have not seen any aggression from her towards other dogs. In fact, I have seen a lot of the opposite. She shares toys well and even likes to snuggle with one of the dogs I babysit, after they wear each other out!

Miley has had a lot of experiences in the past couple of weeks interacting with people she does not know well. She is still quite insecure and untrusting of strangers, but is doing really good warming up to people more quickly and letting strangers pet her. People that we interact with more frequently are always welcomed by Miley with a happy wiggle butt!!! Once she meets people and determines they are safe, she is really good at remembering them the next time she meets them and usually lets them pet her right away. Miley has been muzzle trained since our last update. This has helped me feel less anxious when we are in situations where she is introduced to someone new and makes for a much better experience and atmosphere for Miley! She took to the muzzle really quickly. It is not her favorite thing to wear, but she doesn’t put up too much of a fuss. She knows when it is on that we are going somewhere fun and doing something new! She also gets plenty of treats when she is wearing it and doing good with people!

Miley is still doing great with her tricks! She does really good with the “spin” command now and is getting even better with the collapsable tunnel, now that we can put it outside!!! We have now started working on the weave command where she weaves in between and around my legs. It is taking a bit more concentration for her to pick up on this one, but she is starting to get the hang of it! This command can also be used outdoors with poles or sticks in the yard or on an agility course!!! This may be something we try next and something her adopting family can continue to work with her on!
