Meet Mia $400

Hello future family, Mia here! I am a 2-year-old, 55-pound, shepherd mix from Oklahoma. My first family didn’t know what it meant to have a dog. They left me chained up outside all the time with another dog. As a result, I gave birth to a litter of puppies very young. Don’t worry though, my puppies and I were rescued and brought to Wisconsin for a better life.

Since being rescued, I have learned a lot! I know humans will give me treats when I sit, shake, go down, or give a high five, and pets when I put my paw on them or nudge their hand (the puppy eyes are a good touch too)! I go potty outside during walks or while on my tie out. I make short order of my business, as I am not quite used to this chilly Wisconsin weather. While my fosters are at work, I entertain myself with kids’ TV shows (Bluey is my favorite) and a frozen Kong in my kennel. Other than that, I enjoy chewing on bones, laying sprawled out like a bearskin rug, and sitting on people’s laps. I was deprived of pretty much any human interaction for so long, can you really blame a girl for soaking it all up now?

I enjoy walking on my leash. I sometimes get excited when I see a squirrel, rabbit, or dog and pull on my leash to let my humans know I want to go by them. I promise I’m getting better each day though. I love to explore by putting my nose to the ground and not missing any scents! Once I get used to an area, I don’t need to sniff around so much.

I am currently the only dog in my house and do best with slow introductions with other dogs. I like to get comfortable with them first before we get too close or start playing. I prefer larger dogs over small ones.

Most of all, I need a loving family to cuddle me and call me theirs forever.

If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for one of our great dogs, please go to our website- www.luckymuttsrescue.org and submit an application. Our application process includes landlord approval and vet checks. Please make sure all of your information is current and accurate, including a valid email address and phone numbers. Inaccuracies and/or incomplete data will delay and/or cancel your application. We strive to process all applications in a timely manner, but with the high volume of applications we are receiving, it is taking anywhere from 1-3 weeks. You may be contacted via email if there are concerns or questions. Once all of your information is reviewed and if your application is approved, you will be notified via email. Submitting an application and receiving an approval does not guarantee you will be adopting the dog you applied for. Once you move to the meet and greet process, you will be contacted by the foster family to further discuss the dog, and answer questions you may have, and if applicable, a meet and greet will be set up at our adoption center. Meet and greets are only set up with approved applicants, and we require all members of the household to be present, as well as any current dogs in the home. Meet and greets take place at our adoption center located in Milwaukee. If you are proceeding with adopting a Lucky Mutt, we will require the dog to have a Martingale collar at the time of adoption, to ensure the dog's safety during the transition to a new home.

Current Adoption Fees Are:
$400+tax for puppies to 3 years old
$350+tax for ages 4-7
$250+tax for ages 8 and up
Bonded pairs vary

The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, up-to-date age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip, general deworming, heartworm test, (if over 6 months), and a certified veterinary inspection. Please be aware, listed dog breeds are based on information provided and cannot be guaranteed. Submitting an application for a particular dog does not guarantee that you will be the applicant chosen, we receive several applications for each dog. Our adopters are picked based on the needs of the dog, and the home we feel with best fit based on your responses to our application, vet information, and landlord requirements. Approved applicants not chosen for the dog you applied for, will be in active status for a period of six months. We encourage you to watch Petfinder, Facebook, and our website for upcoming dogs. Should you see a dog that interests you, please send us a Facebook message or an email with your approval number. Please be patient with us, as Lucky Mutts Rescue is run strictly by volunteers and many of us work full-time jobs, have families, and also foster dogs. Thank you for considering Lucky Mutts Rescue for your next furry family member!
