Meet Mia 2yr - Adopted

Mia is Adopted

Update 7-23-10

Mia continues to have these seizure like episodes on a daily basis, she does not let them get in the way of enjoying life at all.

Once the episode has passed, she just goes right on playing or doing what ever it is she was doing like nothing ever happened as you can see in her video.

Our vets thought these were epileptic seizures, however since anti seizure meds are not helping, we were reffered to a specialist for diagnostic testing.

We took Mia to Akron Ohio to see a vetrinary neurologist, and it was determined that she needed an MRI in order to determine the cause and plan of treatment.

The MRI along with a spinal tap cost $1,600 and the MRI itself came back clear of any structural abnormalities of the brain or brain masses.

We now are waiting on the results from the spinal tap, and a urine sample which has been sent to the University of PA Veterinary school.

It has also been recommended to us that this could be a rare form of epilepsy, that would not show up on an MRI, and it does not respond to common antiseizure medications.

Our next step would be a small brain biopsy to search for this rare epilepsy.

We are doing everything we can to try and find the cause and hopefully treatment to help Mia live a normal life, and as a non-profit rescue organization, we really need help with donations for her care.

We will continue to post updates as we know receive test results.

We know that the chance that there is anyone that would be willing to adopt Mia with her current condition, is almost nothing, however we also know that there are some very special people in this world that would possibly give her a forever home, and love her unconditionally no matter what.

If you think you could be that very special person, please contact us.

Mia is currently fostered in Mentor Ohio, and her adoption donation is $300

Mia is a 1 yr old female cocker spaniel with beautiful markings, she is white & red, and has black sable coloring on her ears.

Mia came to our rescue from a shelter in Defiance Ohio, along with Marty (we believe they are litter mates).

They were dumped in the drop box at the shelter with no information, so we do not have any history on them.

Both of these cockers were extremely thin when they were dropped off at the shelter, but they are putting on weight, and looking much healthier now.

Mia has such a sweet laid back personality, she is quiet and affectionate, although she does get playful with the other dogs in her foster home.

She loves toys, and will play with them for hours, especially the squeaky ones.

She also appears to be housetrained, and goes outside to do her business with the other dogs.

Mia is one of a kind in my book, she is just so well mannered, and sweet, I really can't say anything negative about this little girl.

She is a tiny cocker weighing only about 16 lbs, and has a small petite frame, she looks alot like a puppy still.

Mia is healthy, however she was having seizures when she first came into rescue.

Our vet put her on a low dose of phenobarbitol, and she is doing well so far, although we do not know if this is something she will need for the rest of her life, but it is a possibility.

Mia will make a wonderful addition to just about any houseold, although we do not know how she is around small children, because she is not currently fostered with them.

Mia is already spayed, up to date on vaccines, and is heartworm negative.

If you would like to adopt Mia or would like more information on her, please fill out an adoption application.
