Meet Mercy

Mercy arrived from Animal Control as an owner surrender. God certainly showed her mercy the day she caught her foster's eye.

With a guesstimated birthday in Nov. 2018, Mercy weighs about 60 lb.

She is people friendly, but can be dominant with other dogs. She enjoys playing with small dogs and puppies.
Mercy walks regularly with a calm, subordinate, neutered male and no behavior concerns are noted. However, she doesn't appreciate female or impolite dogs in her personal space at this time.

Mercy loves car rides and has good house manners. She was initially kept separated at her foster's in the kitchen with no accidents. She doesn't like to be confined (crated / kenneled) and will be destructive to get to her people (No closed doors, please!). This is something that her foster is working on and should reduce in time as she develops feelings of security. She'd been at the shelter about 4 weeks. It's difficult for a dog to go from a family to a shelter environment, so she's learning to trust being in a home again and not worry that she'll be returned to a shelter.

Update Dec. 2021: Mercy has gone on several adventures / hikes with her foster mom. She is doing well on the leash, but will pull when excited. She's becoming more tolerant of staying in the kitchen when her foster mom can't be home.

**********

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is is www.FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
