Merci Terrier Mix Manhattan, KS

Introducing Merci, a 55 pound, house-trained sweetheart of a pit mix looking for an extra-loving new home.
We are not sure what Merci’s backstory is, but we are pretty sure it’s not a pretty one. Here’s what we know: she was left in the night drop box of a high kill shelter on a Friday night. Saturday she gave birth to a litter of puppies. They were not thriving, so by Sunday, they were put on the euth-list. We sprung the whole family out of the shelter and into a foster home before the end of the weekend.
When Merci arrived at her foster home, she was covered in cuts, scabs and scars and was terrified. But she did her best to take amazing care of her puppies and immediately started looking to her foster family for love and comfort. Merci is now feeling much more secure, is coming out of her shell, and letting her personality shine around the people she trusts.
Merci is the absolute sweetest pit mix you’ll ever meet, she gets along great with other dogs and loves her foster kids also (though loud noises and sudden movements do sometimes startle her). Merci even takes on the “nanny dog” role and helps clean up after her kids. Every day after they leave for school, she walks around the house gathering up any items they left on the floor (socks, pillows, toys, etc.) and piles them up on her bed. She does not chew anything up, she just collects everything and keeps it safe until they get back. ??
She is a gentle and laid back dog and will not ask for much from her forever family. What she will need in her new home is lots of pets everyday to help her know she is loved and a “safe space” of her own, such as a crate with a comfy bed or a quiet corner of the house filled with blankets.
