Meet Melley - Overlooked Adoptable/Reduced Adoption Fee
2 years old, 42 pounds
Female, spayed- UTD on all vaccinations
Good with dogs: Melley is still very puppy and has an exuberant high-energy play style. She doesn't always recognize signals from other dogs to step back and give them space so a tolerant dog or dogs of a similar play style would be best. Slow introductions are key for Melley and a must for any adopter with a dog. Pet Haven and her trainer will help you through this process to achieve a successful integration. Being a solo dog would be fine for Melley too.
Cats: No, very high prey drive. "Watch out squirrels!"
Kids? Sweet, loving, and very loyal she would do best in a home with children 12 or over who can respect her needs, enjoy her energy, and not be intimidated by it.
Training: In order to support dogs in our care to be the best they can be, Melley spent 10 weeks at a Board and Train facility. Melley is very well trained. She knows and follows several commands including "place". She was a star pupil! She is also crate-trained and potty-trained.
Melley found her way to Pet Haven from one of our shelter partners so we do not know a lot about her back story. She was a stray just slightly over a year old. What we do know about Melley is the important stuff. We know she is sweet, loving, loyal, and bonds to her people. Melley is a super high energy dog. Did we say "high energy?" An adopter needs to have the lifestyle and ability to give her space and engage in activity.
Melley is still a young pup and as a result, her continued training is very important. Helping a dog to be the best they can be and live a life that is best for them is a priority at Pet Haven. We would like to set Melley up for success!
In rescue, we don't know what dogs have experienced in their past but we do know they have most likely gone through a lot of changes and this can cause a dog to exhibit nervousness. Melley is one of those dogs. When she gets nervous, she needs a quiet place of her own to decompress. She tends to get overstimulated so this is a gal who needs a little downtime when that happens. Unfortunately, since she has been with us she has seen several moves which more than likely has contributed to some nervous behaviors. An adopter needs to be willing to provide the stability and patience she needs to support her through this so she can finally trust and know she is home.
We would like to see Melley's adopter continue working with her training plan, setting clear boundaries, and helping her work through some resource guarding tendencies. Her current foster has continued that training and they have also done some nosework with her, which she loves. She is very responsive and obedient and likes the rewards and attention. She thrives having confident caregivers and knowing what is expected of her.
Melley is so friendly and welcoming to people and needs plenty of exercise to help her settle. In order for Melley to be her best self, her ideal home would include a large, fenced-in backyard (or land) where she can run and explore. And an active family, experienced with dogs like Melley, who would take her on lots of walks, runs and hikes and keep her engaged. She would do best outside of a busy city where she can have some room to run.
Her adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, & Bordetella), HW and flea/tick preventative, and microchip implant and registration.
There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best guess.
Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.
Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 150-mile radius of the Minneapolis, MN city center.
