Melley found her way to Pet Haven from one of our shelter partners so we do not know a lot about her back story. She was a stray just slightly over a year old. What we do know about Melley is the important stuff. We know she is sweet, loving, loyal, and bonds to her people.

Melley is a super high energy dog. An adopter needs to have the lifestyle and ability to give her space and engage in activity. To paint a picture, she can go for a two-mile run and be relaxed for an hour, and then she is energized up again for more activity! Because of this, she absolutely needs a tall, fenced yard as an outlet for some of this energy.

Melley is good with other dogs after slow introductions and that are male, her size and energy level. No cats due to her high prey drive. She is good with kids, age 12 and over, who can respect her needs, enjoy her energy, and not be intimidated by it.

Melley has spent 10 weeks at a Board and Train facility and it very well trained. She is still a young pup though and her continued training is very important. We would like to see Melley’s adopter continue to work with her on training, set clear boundaries, and help her work through some resource guarding tendencies. She is responsive and obedient, likes attention and treats, and thrives having confident caregivers and knowing what is expected of her.
Melley would do best in the suburbs as the bustle of the city overstimulates her. She also cannot go to an apartment or townhome.

Melley has seen several changes since coming to Pet Haven and this has caused her to exhibit some nervousness. She needs a quiet place of her own to decompress when she is overstimulated. An adopter needs to be willing to provide the stability and patience she needs to support her through this so she can finally trust and know she is home.

Melley is so friendly and welcoming to people and needs plenty of exercise to help her settle. For Melley to be her best self, her ideal home would include a large, fenced-in backyard (or land) where she can run and explore. And an active and outdoorsy family or person, experienced with dogs like Melley, who would take her on lots of walks, runs and hikes and keep her engaged. She would do best outside of a busy city where she can have some room to run and would even do well with agility training!



Her adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, & Bordetella), HW and flea/tick preventative, and microchip implant and registration.

There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best guess.

Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 150-mile radius of the Minneapolis, MN city center.
