Meeko the Toy Hoarder!
Meeko is a funny boy, with a great personality who loves toys, snow, and chasing tennis balls! Check out his video https://youtu.be/H-L8ZjbceW0. But Meeko has difficulty showing that side of himself. You see, Meeko comes from a hoarding situation where he lacked much socialization with people, so he tends to be very cautious around new people, especially men. However, Meeko LOVES other dogs! He’s been fostered with eight other dogs and has done great with every single one of them. He has a way to adapt and get along with a mix of personalities, especially if they want to play!
When we first got Meeko, it was obvious he was not familiar with indoors. He was afraid to interact with us and just wanted to hide. Over time, he learned to relax. Little by little he began to enjoy home life – where to eat, sleep, get treats, toys, etc. By the way, he LOVES his stuffed toys! So much that he could appear on an episode of Hoarders! He even takes them out to potty! For the most part, Meeko now follows me around the house, but it took a while to get there, and sometimes still needs encouraging.
Meeko will need a calm, quiet home with a family that will be patient and give him the time he needs to acclimate, which could take several weeks. Once Meeko warms up to you, he will still be fearful of visitors, so a low-key house would be best for him. And to confirm, Meeko just avoids new people and will find a spot to hide – he does not bark or growl or show any aggression. Meeko will not do well living with children because sudden movements and noises scare him. He will do best in a household with a female caretaker and another dog to help him adapt. A secure, fenced-in backyard will provide a safe place to work on leash walking and building trust before venturing out into the neighborhood.
Meeko is completely house-trained, crate-trained, microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. He is currently being fostered in Southampton, PA. Please come meet Meeko if you are interested in adopting him!
