Meatball was a neglect case dog that Waverly police seized from his owner in Bremer County, Iowa. Good job Waverly police! There is a case against them and they will not get Meatball back. Meatball is a Waverly Pet Rescue dog now and lives in a foster home.

Meatball is a 1-1/2 year old terrier mix and is all legs. He was only 7 pounds when taken by the police. You can see from his neglect picture that they starved him. Goodness, this absolutely breaks my heart to know the horror this dog has lived through.

Meatball went to a vet for weeks and was fed small meals and given love and care and he has totally thrived. Once he doubled his weight they felt it was safe to neuter him. So that is done now along with vaccines and heartworm test negative. He weighs about 15 pounds and still should gain more as he should be 20 pounds or so.

When he first went to his foster home, he was wound up and bounced all over the house. But after 2 days, the tides turned and he’s a completely different boy. He was free all day to run and play with the other dogs and has been so calm tonight.

’After a week in his foster home and Meatball is adjusting well. Gets along with our dogs. Got him a slow feeding dish because he still eats quickly. He does good with no, stay, sit. He’s good about sleeping in a kennel at night. Was very hesitant at first, but he gets a treat every night when he goes in so no more issues there. Very food motivated. He does have a lot of energy for sure, but also enjoys snuggling on the couch for belly rubs. He gets nervous if anyone talks loudly or the dogs start barking. He’ll jump up on my lap and tremble a little till he knows who it is or the dogs stop. He’s a sweet little guy and wants to please. With patience from someone who knows and understands what happed to him, he’ll be an amazing dog!!

Will someone please adopt Meatball and give him a forever home? $300.00 adoption fee.

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
