Age: apx 2 years
Gender: Female (Not Yet Spayed)
Location: Chesapeake, VA (Adopters must be Within 1 hour)
Size: 14"at the shoulder, 23lbs nursing pups, normal weight 18-20lbs
Special Needs: Nursing puppies, will go home when pups are weaned, adopters will need to help her milk dry up, and she needs to undergo heartworm treatment (paid for by BTTR)
Surrender Reason: She was a stray that gave birth under a lawnmower in Essex County. Essex Animal Control was able to catch her and her seven 10 day old puppies.
Good with: Unknown, she has been in quarantine with her pups.
Energy Level: Medium
Likes: being safe inside, snacks, being rubbed, very food motivated.
Behavior: She is timid with new people, she is very friendly with the people she knows. She is a bit nervous of loud noises and sudden movements. Since she is nursing puppies her personality will show more once they are weaned.
Ideal Home: We aren't 100% sure of the best home for her yet. She would probably do well in a quieter home with no kids or older kids, she uses a dog door, and loves attention. Her family must be with-in 1.5 hours of Chesapeake, VA (prefer within 1 hour, see map) have a fenced in yard, and no un-neutered male dogs over 5 months (will cannot be spayed yet)
Health: Meadow spent at least 1-2 years on her own, she is positive for heartworms and 2 tick borne illnesses, she will require treatment which will be provided by BTTR. BTTR can discuss treatment options with you. Foster family will need to monitor her mammary glands as her milk production stops and will need to be willing to apply warm compresses if needed.
Timeline: She will be ready to go to a foster family (preferably a family that would be interested in adopting her) once her pups are weaned around the end of Oct/early Nov. She will need a minimum of 2-4 weeks for her milk to dry up after going home before she can be spayed. Once she has been spayed we can start heartworm treatment.
Adoption Fee: $220 includes: vaccines (rabies, parvo/distemper, lepto, bordetella), spay, vet exam, heartworm/tick borne illness treatment, deworming, and microchip
