Meet Maxine
Maxine is mama to the Coffee Litter. She has been well-loved, but the family's grandmother who keeps her is no longer able to walk her. She wants her to have a family of her own so she can play with little children and take walks or go riding to public places.
With a birthday in Jan. 2017, Maxine weighs 70 lb. She's looking for a large couch to snooze on with her people, or will just curl up at your feet.
Although initially a little hesitant around strange dogs, Maxine has acclimated easily to a house with multiple foster dogs and cats. She needs an experienced owner who can recognize her behavior as testing other dogs, not aggressive.  She's in a pack of 8 foster dogs and gets along with them because they know where they belong in the hierarchy - as equal betas . Despite her current situation, she would prefer to be the only dog. She will resource guard her people if allowed.Â
She would like to cruise the counters for after dinner snacks, so her new family should be alert and encourage good kitchen manners.
Maxine's comfortable in her crate, sleeping all night long on a firm bed. She would like to follow her foster from room to room, but accepts the limitations of staying in the kitchen area. She's leash-trained, although will pull if not reinforced, and is house-trained when kept on a regular schedule.
Diagnosed heartworm positive in Feb. 2020, she's been on monthly prevention to protect dogs around her and allow the heartworm to die off without compromising her health. We'll require her new family to have a vet history of heartworm prevention to continue her treatment for life.
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. We suggest first time pet owners look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be added if using our veterinarian. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
