Meet Maximus (a.k.a. Max)

The first time Maximus (aka, Max) came to STAF we were so thankful to save him from the worst county pound in the area. Max had been dumped by his owner and bigger dogs don’t have much of a chance in these county pounds and we knew we had to get Max out.

Once at STAF Max was quickly adopted. Sadly Max was recently returned to STAF. In this home there are teenage kids and a ton of activity and noise. Unfortunately this was just too much for Max. Max became afraid and easily startled and that is no way for a beautiful boy like Max to live the rest of his life.

Unfortunately, the more fearful Max became the more the family isolated him from the outside world. So instead of slowly becoming acclimated with more exposure he became more afraid:( Max was always fine and felt secure with all the commotion when he was on leash in the house. Max tolerated having a bath:)

This home also had so many great things to say about Max. For example, He is great in the house, and does not chew on anything, even when left with free range. He learns quickly so if there are areas that he is not supposed to be in, you can easily teach him those boundaries. Max had a great fenced yard to roam and sniff and was always sure to know where his former family was.

Max needs an understanding and patient home to help build his confidence with people, other animals and normal every day noises. Max has done very well with the calmer-lower key dogs at STAF. He will most likely be happiest in a calmer home without young children. It will take some time but the rewards will be plentiful.

Max is a very sweet, loving and loyal dog, who is just happy to be with you! Max is patiently waiting for a new forever family who can give him the training and consistency he needs to be a happy and confident boy.

Maximus will need: Patience, training and a calmer home without young children.
Maximus would love: A fenced yard and a family loves to take long walks
Maximus’ estimated birth date is April 2015

Please see our homepage for visiting hours and adoption details.

All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.

Visit our website www.staf.org to download our application.

We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.

You must be 21 years or older to adopt a dog from STAF

We require a physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog's behavior and exercise needs.

Invisible fences - Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training--we cannot adopt to homes with invisible fences unless otherwise noted in a dog's online profile.

We do request vet and personal references.

At this time, we are only able to consider applicants within 75 miles of Cincinnati.

Can’t adopt but want to help? You can make a difference! Our shelter is run entirely on volunteer-power and generous donations from animal-lovers like you. 100% of your contribution goes directly to caring for our 500+ furry residents. Thank you for your support.
