Max's owner in Hazelton, Iowa, no longer has time for him. So Max is a Waverly Pet Rescue dog now. Max is now up to date on shots, heartworm negative, had senior bloodwork done and checked out well, a teeth cleaner and teeth pulled with a dental, and neutered. He is living in a foster home.

Max is about 9 years old. He is the sweetest boy ever and very friendly. He does well with children and other dogs. He has not been around cats. He is not completely housetrained. His foster family is working on that with him. He will need more training in a new home.

Max deserves the best forever home ever in his senior years.

12/7/22 UPDATE: Max stopped eating over the weekend and acted like he was in pain. We took him to a vet right away to figure out what was going on. Max has a compressed disk in his back. They put him on some pain meds, anti-inflammatory, and some shampoo for his extremely dry skin. Doc suggests 3 things: 1. maintain him on the medications and control his activity in hopes the disk calms down and eases the pain. 2. do an MRI ($2400) to verify the severity of the compression to see if it may rupture or 3 take him to Ames to see what they recommend. Sounds like it was not anything in particular that caused this, it was an underlying issue that thankfully appeared before it was life threatening. We are doing option #1 right now and will update this with any progress or changes.

12/16/22 UPDATE: Max is doing great! The meds are helping him a lot. His foster home is limiting his activity and all of this seems to be helping. If anything changes, we will update his profile.

2/6/23 UPDATE: His back issues have subsided and loves being outside (even in the cold), running, and playing with the other dogs. However, I would keep in mind that the medication did help, but the back issues are still possible and could reoccur at anytime.

We do keep a belly band on him inside but he has not had any accidents or been caught marking his territory in quite a while.

Max is an incredibly sweet boy and loves belly rubs when he’s not outside patrolling the back yard. He’s sleeps well in a kennel at night and is a good eater.

Max is beyond ready for his forever home

Will someone please adopt Max and give him a forever home? $150.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
