Meet Max

Max is a coton de tulear mix and he is nine years old. Max has lived an extremely pampered life but somewhat isolated spending all of his day with his adoring owner. Max would benefit from a quiet home as he is slow to trust. Max is not suited to a home with young children as he is easily startled. A perfect home will have lots of time to spend with the little guy. He lived with his owner 24/7, and now he barks and whines when left. He is a smart guy, and some separation time can be learned. Max is a very healthy guy except he’s a bit fat. We are working on his weight and mobility. A new home should not have many stairs as Max doesn’t seem to know how to climb them (or he’s just lazy!). A good home for him would also need to take him on at least one daily walk; we have started two daily walks to whip him into shape. Max loves being out in our backyard, and gets very excited for his leash walks; he really enjoys them. We were told that Max did not like other dogs or cats, but he has a foster sister about his age and size, and they have been fine with one another. He is shy but curious with other people on our walks, but does snark at other dogs. Housetraining is a bit of a mystery – pee pads are hit and miss, and he gets out to our yard regularly yet still has the occasional accident in the house. Max is mostly quiet, but will bark at a dog walking past our home and the mailman. Max loves his dog bed and stuffed squeaky toys and especially loves treats. He does require an owner prepared for a lot of grooming. We brush him daily (especially his tail and ears) and wipe his eyes, and he needs a bath every week or two. Max requires a professional groomer regularly for haircuts. On the upside, he’s a gem to groom; very well behaved. Max knows his name, and that’s about it. Yup – no leash manners, not crate trained, and would rather sit up to beg for a treat than sit down. He has since learned sit. We’re working on it because you can teach an old dog new tricks and this is a whole new world for Max. Max is a smart guy and aims to please. If you are looking for a little guy to be the centre of your attention and constant companion, Max is your man.

Max is neutered, dewormed, current on vaccines and has received a wellness exam. Adoption fee is $200.
