Meet Max

This is Max!

Max is a 2 yr old DDR line male GSD, having a lean and powerful 65-70 lb build. He is a youthful high energy GSD, personable and naturally protective to those close to him.

He is cautious around new people and takes a little time to warm up to them. Once he is comfortable, he is a happy dog and acts like a big goofy puppy.

Max showed typical fear issues as a puppy. His owners were first time GSD owners and did the right thing in asking for help from a trainer. Unfortunately it appears that the trainer decided to use heavy compulsion techniques on Max to correct undesired behaviors rather than dealing with the underlying confidence issues. To counter this training GSR&RC enrolled Max in a 6 week In Kennel training Course at Battleship K9 in Fall River, MA. He has since graduated and is doing wonderfully!

We would rate Max as having very good obedience skills for a pet dog. He would need some work to get him to competition level but we believe he would be a candidate in the future. He has shown an aptitude for scent work. Max is very vocal in the kennel and will alarm at strangers or suspicious noises.

We think that Max’s ideal family (a couple or individual) should be the active outdoor type. Because of his high energy level, dog savvy children 14 or over will be considered. His adopters should be strong confident people. Adopters should have previous experience with dogs, preferably working dogs.

Max continues to train at Battleship K9. His new family should be willing to continue to train with Max with a professional trainer for 1 hour per week for a period of time. This will establish a bond with Max and his new family and provide structure and leadership. Max is a true working line German Shepherd and needs to be managed and lead properly.

We would consider placing Max in a home with another dog provided that the other dog was neutral to submissive and they were properly introduced.

Max did test fine with Scooter, our test cat, but as we know, that doesn't mean he will not chase a cat that runs or get along with all cats.

He is a very clean dog, house and crate trained, up to date on all shots and neutered. With the right family, Max will be the companion of a lifetime.

If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting Max, please visit www.germanshepherdcenter.org for an adoption application. In order to be considered, an application must be submitted.
