This sweet little 30-lb Aussie mix has a gentle spirit and is full of personality. Surrendered by her owner to a county shelter (they were moving), Mataya quickly won our hearts from the moment she walked in our doors. She is very well-mannered, adores attention, and doesn't seem to be much of a barker. About the only time she seems to bark is when she's trying to let us know she needs a potty break or sometimes if all the other dogs are barking. According to the form filled out at the other shelter by her previous owner, Mataya is house-trained; not destructive; gets along well with children, cats and other dogs; "likes a lot of attention...and likes to be loved as much as possible." We were also informed by the staff at the other shelter that Mataya "knows a lot of commands but only in Spanish." Unfortunately, none of the ACS staff speak Spanish but Mataya is very responsive to English, too. Guess you could say she is bi-lingual! While you may not notice it at first, Mataya is missing the paw on her right rear leg. We don't know if this was due to an accident or if it's a congenital condition but she sure doesn't let it stop her from doing anything and everything any other dog can do! And we sure hope it doesn't stop anyone from considering adopting her. Potential adopters should also know that Mataya's bloodwork indicated that she might have liver disease. A biopsy done at the time of her spay, however, didn't find any evidence of liver disease or a liver shunt. Still, the vet recommends that Mataya's adopter have bloodwork repeated every 6 months. Mataya might have a higher risk of some type of problem down the road but she's such a love and deserves a loving and committed home with people who will ensure that all her needs are met - whatever they may turn out to be. If you have the financial means to cover not just routine but any other type of veterinary care as well that your furry family member might require during its lifetime, then Mataya would love to meet you!
