Meet Massey

Massey strayed into someone's yard in early Feb. and was turned in to Animal Control. He was very underweight when surrendered, but has gained most of the needed weight back.

With a guesstimated birthday in Feb. 2020, Massey weighed 86 lb in at his neuter in March.

Massey is a sweet, gentle giant. He didn't want to get into the rescuer's van, but was patient in the crate he was put in for the trip to his foster home. He was calm on the leash, even in a new environment, and greeted the other dogs politely. Although, not initially interested in entering a crate, with treats thrown in he got used to the feel of the crate tray under his paws and eventually went in. He is comfortable in a 54" crate. The next size down (48" crate) isn't tall enough for him to be comfy.

Massey does some growling at other dogs - not people - when eating. His foster crates him to eat so this isn't an issue. He can take treats gently from his foster's hand when in a pack. He is calm in the car, and will load himself (especially when his foster crawls into the back seat & across out the other door so he will follow).

Massey craves attention and will jump up next to his fosters for pets. He's doing much better about NOT putting his paws on people. He is also food motivated, so will jump up to try to get his food bowl on the ground faster. He's quite tall, so keeping it away from him is a challenge for his foster mom :)

Massey is house-trained when kept on a regular schedule. He is patient in his crate at night now that he understands the routine. He's crated near other calm dogs in crates, so this reinforces good behavior.

**********

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
