If you're looking for a fun companion to train and grow with, check out this little man! Marten is a nugget at approximately 27lbs and is about two years old. He loves working with his handler, be it practicing obedience, learning a new trick, or dabbling in a sport! Things like nosework, agility, or trick training will be great ways to stimulate that cattle dog brain and help him build some confidence. He is a nervous dude, but once you show him he doesn't need to be skeptical he quickly goes from "this is scary" to "this is fun"! He's a super sweet dude who will really shine with more training.

Marten's ideal adopters have some training experience and no children (he has herded them in the past). A busy or loud household will be challenging for him right now: he's a sensitive little dude. He will need someone able to continue his training and teach him how to react more neutrally to the people and dogs he sees out on walks - he is currently reactive and will bark. For this reason, Marten will also likely have a hard time in a busy city environment. He is not a dog who will benefit from dog parks or random leash greetings with strangers and other dogs. That being said, Marten has been fine meeting people and other dogs after appropriate introductions. He's doing fine coexisting with multiple dogs in his foster home, can get a little overexcited at times but calls off very well, and enjoys hiking with the pack! Though he has not been formally cat tested, Marten has shown prey drive towards small animals so a cat-free home is best.

Marten is house trained, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. He is mostly crate trained - he'll actually self-crate when tired or if he doesn't feel like engaging - but can get vocal when I first leave the house. Car rides make him anxious but he has been improving. I expect Marten should be medium energy once he fully settles into his home, a process that may take him a little longer than some other dogs.

If you think Marten would be a great fit for your home, you can reach out to his foster kristyn.stock@gmail.com with any questions. Marten is being fostered in Marshfield MA and needs to meet his potential family prior to adoption to ensure a great fit.
