Meet Marshall the Low Rider! This little lad was born in the first week of January, and we actually know quite a bit about him. He was “backyard bred” and was given to his first owner at 6 weeks old. He was babied for his first few weeks in his new home before her living situation changed drastically. Unrelated, some of his littermates and mom later ended up at the same shelter. It is based on this that we think (?) he is an ACD/PB and of all things….Dachshund mix. If his adopters go for a DNA test, tell us! But…he also has all the best-and naughty-ACDs traits!

Marshall is a sweet boy who really wants to bond with his person but also lives to pester his foster sister. He would do well with a balanced dog (or dogs) in the home as he is very playful and takes corrections well. He is a bit of a toy thief, but to his credit, he loves toys and food so much that he will be quite easy to train. We are working on crate training (he whines a little but settles well), house training (only two accidents!), he knows Sit, some recall, and we are working on hand targeting and “leave it.” And a solid “leave it” is gonna be important!

He is a very mouthy puppy (some due to teething) so he would not be a good choice for a home with kids under five. His bite inhibition is decent and he does respond to the “OUCH” method fairly well. He is also entering his teen fear period so his adopters will need to have a very good plan for positive, thoughtful, socialization. He has shown strut and bark at the scary things as well as a good approach, retreat, reapproach and be brave and SUCCESS! He also has a marrow piercing shriek (which only shows up when his foster sis won’t play) so he may not be best for apartment living. He is also really smart. He quickly figured out he could play fetch by himself by running up the ramp, chewing on the ball for a sec, and then letting it roll. Run, Grab Ball, Repeat.

Marshall is UTD on age appropriate vax, flea and tick preventatives, and microchipped.

Applicants should be prepared to discuss at length training and socialization plans.
