Marco is ready to find his own forever family where he may be the king of the castle and live his best life without having to share his toys and food with other pets.
Excited to meet other dogs on walks, he approaches confidently, happy to sniff and greet the other dog.
He is very good with other dogs when he does not feel he needs to guard his special things.
He has high prey drive-- will chase squirrels, birds and bunnies in the yard.
He is also happy to meet any humans, both men and women, who come to visit, happily seeking their lap for snuggles.
His foster's description "Marco is such a friendly and sweet dog. He loves to spend time exploring in the backyard and going on walks but is just as happy to curl up on a blanket and nap. He loves to spend time in the sun outside or find a sunny spot in the house. Marco also loves to pay with his toy, especially when he is excited he will go get a toy. He loves to play tug and fetch and using the treat ball but hasn't shown interest in playing with balls. "
He is food motivated, but does need additional training to improve his leash /recall and listening skills.
Marco is crate trained and not a nuisance barker. He will alert if someone comes to the door or when you come home, but settles well quickly after.
At 6 yrs young, Marco is not suitable for elderly caregivers, he is very active, and as a healthy dog, may live up 15+ more years.
Older seniors make great pet parents but we recommend matching up with senior pets as well, to ensure that our dogs do not have to go through yet another transition/change of homes if their caregivers become unable to care for them in later years.
Due to his tiny fragile size, children/grandchildren must be older and respectful, if there are any in his home, and be raised to understand that dogs are not toys to be carried and mishandled.
His adoption contract will include the requirement to return to our vet specialist, at our expense, located in Guelp ON, to have his dental surgery.
Dental appts are booking into fall of 2022 and it is not fair for Marco to wait for a forever home merely due to this final vet appt pending. He is a very happy healthy wee man other than his dental to be completed.
All of Marco's other vetting has been completed, including neuter, vaccinations, bloodwork, dental assessment, deworming, flea/tick preventing, microchip etc.
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission
Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require two in person meetings in St Jacobs ON after your application has been approved.
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs after you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs and do not permit meetings until our screening process has been completed.
If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application
Marco's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $500
His adoption fee is only a tiny fraction of his expenses for his vetting, dental surgery and care expenses.
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dentals if required, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, bloodwork, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.
For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:
We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.
An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a virtual home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. All dogs are in private foster family homes, not a facility.
Any questions may be emailed to email@example.com
Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.
Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
