Meet Marcato BAS
With a guesstimated birthday in Mary 2020, Marcato weighs 57 lb as a full adult in good condition.
Marcato was happy to interact with the shelter's intake team during initial exam. He was bouncy and enthusiastic. When strangers approach his kennel, he bounds up to the gate to greet them. Frustration causes him to bark, but in person he's affectionate. He is leash savvy, but will pull.
During neuter surgery recovery, Marcato entered a foster home. Although not willing to get into the car on his own, he was happy to drive around town, stopping at various dog-friendly establishments to get out and interact calmly with the public. When he arrived at his foster home, he greeted the dogs and settled into his kennel without a fuss.
At his foster home, he was not able to enter the house due to large foster males and limited space in the home. He was able to exit his kennel in the barn to eliminate outside, so no marking or messes inside. He was understandably excited for company, but has learned to sit semi-patiently for attention and while being clipped up for a walk. After the initial excitement, abt 50 yards, he settled calmly into a walk, willing to hang out while his foster mom picked blackberries.
Marcato has participated in training sessions with one of our experienced volunteers. He has learned how to walk at heel and maintain his composure. He doesn't do as well with other volunteers, so calm consistency will be important to continue these lessons to mastery.
Marcato can be dog-selective, so would do best as an only dog. He can walk past other dogs without reacting and has some doggy friends. He enjoys going on explores with his handlers and behaves beautifully when visiting business establishments.
This adoptable pup is being housed at our Bunch Anderson Shelter Building in Lenoir and can be seen most Saturdays from 11 -3 p.m.
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
