12/7/2017: Manny is a 7 year old Retriever mix with a pretty coat and a great big smile! He’s very friendly and loves people. He’s intelligent and playful, and fairly active. We've recently introduced him to the agility course, and he loves it! We don’t know if he is 100% house trained, but he keeps his kennel very clean and he's done well on a couple of overnight visits with staff and volunteers. He also did fine when he was crated during an overnight home visit and slept through the night. He weighs 58 lbs.

Manny is not a big fan of other dogs, or cats, so he’s looking for a home where he’d be the only pet. He does fine on pack walks and regularly goes on walks with other dogs nearby but not interacting. We'd also like to place him in a home without young kids. He had been picked up by KCK Animal Control as a stray, and he had lots of bad bite wounds all over his body. We think that he'd been living on a chain. We transferred Manny to our shelter so that we could treat his wounds. Manny also had heartworms. He fully recovered from his wounds and completed heartworm treatments, and he has also been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Because he needs a home without other pets, we've had Manny for quite some time. We'd love to find this fun, sweet guy a home soon.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. We encourage you to fill out an online adoption application and submit it before you come to see us. This helps us process your application more quickly and we can schedule an appointment for you to come in so that our small staff can serve you best. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of the pets you meet, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the pet home with you that day. We’ll instead schedule a pick up date and time that’s convenient for you.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.
