Meet Mama
Mama came in with a whole slew of puppies. The trapper originally said she thought it was just 4 or 5 pups but it ended up being 10! She was living in a shed and being fed but has had limited human interaction. All her puppies have since been adopted.
She goes outside and kennels up well but is fearful of human interaction. She allows us to sit in the kennel with her and will take a treat from our hand but is fearful of being petted.
She loves other dogs and would do well in a home that has another playful dog to bring her out of her shell. She currently plays with Hayes, a younger dog in the rescue. They rough house and play tug of war. She has been out in the yard with calmer dogs before as well & has done fine. There is only one dog she did not like (Rocko) who was bigger and approaches other dogs like a tank. A meet and greet with any other dogs in the home will be required.
The rescue is primarily interested in getting her into a foster home that may be adoption minded once she settles in. There are only so many social skills we can teach in a kennel setting.
She is spayed, up to date on rabies/bordatella/DHPPv/heartworm preventative.
Our process:
We are not a first come first served shelter. Our process may be a little longer but it's designed to make sure animals are going to homes that meet their needs. You may have a great home and be lovely people, but sometimes a dog just isn't suited for your circumstance. For example, one dog may need a six foot privacy fence due to climbing behaviors while another may be fine with 4 ft chain link. Another dog may need a backyard while another would do fine in an apartment setting. We know our animals pretty well and we don't want you or your new addition to be forced into something that's not ideal for everyone.
Schedule a visit with the dog by going to www.copilotanimalrescue.org
Feel free to reach out to us by email with additional questions: copilotanimalrescue@gmail.com
Fill out an adoption application (you can do this before or after you meet the dog). Message us once you complete the app so we can start working on your references.
Let your vet know (if you have current animals) that we will be calling. They frequently need your permission to give us any info.
Home visit and adoption trial. If all lights are green, we will do a home visit followed by an adoption trial of one week to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the new addition.
Contracts are signed prior to the adoption trial.
