Meet Major

Major is looking for a home because his owner recently passed away. Major is a 5 yr old lab/shepherd mix, weighing about 72 lbs. He's housebroken, up-to-date on vaccines, and knows some obedience commands. He had a rough start in life and was crated much of the time at a shelter in the south. He's come a long way, but requires a special home with a dog-savvy owner who can help him build confidence, and respect his sensitivities. Major is not comfortable around children.

Major has been living with his dog-sitter for the past 6 weeks and she provided this information:
First, we absolutely adore Major. Like anyone, he would likely need some time to settle into a new situation. The first few days in my house he sat in a corner. Then eventually really made himself at home. Over the 6+ weeks that I have had him, he has blossomed. He is comfortable around almost all of the other dogs, no matter what size or shape. He sometimes runs with them but then goes off to do his own thing. He absolutely LOVES car rides and LOVES LOVES LOVES his walks. Any time he sees me putting on my coat he gets so excited!!!! Once he gets to know you, he would love to have his belly rubbed, shake paws, get his head scratched. He is a good eater and is in generally good health -- he just had his annual check up last Friday. He is a lab/shepherd mix, around 72 pounds, 5 years old. He will need to have his teeth cleaned at some point. But here is the thing: like any rescue, Major has his issues and he can't tell us what they are. 98% of the time he is the sweetest dog in the world. But you have to let him set the terms for giving him affection. He'll need some time to settle into a new home, consistent structure and routine. He can be a loving and affectionate companion and will be good company in the right home.
