Maizie Rat Terrier Mix Oklahoma City, OK

Meet Maizie, an approximately 14-year-old, 10lb, female, Rat Terrier mix who was born around the end of 2007. She became a Misfit when her owners passed away. Maizie is spayed, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, heart-worm negative, and micro-chipped!

Maizie is in renal failure, so she does require a special kidney care diet and weekly subcutaneous fluids. She is very picky and doesn’t have many teeth. She eats chicken flavored soft foods only. She is also a little blind and a little deaf, so she does need patience and understanding from a new owner.

Maizie is mostly house trained. She does go on potty pads when she can’t make it outside. Due to her age, there are occasional accidents. Maizie is not kennel trained and will bark/cry while contained and will not stop until she is freed. She mainly stays in her bed, though. She doesn’t wander too much unless it’s from one bed to another. She is sometimes a good car rider. Other times she wants to try her hand at driving. As long as she has a bed in the car she will usually stay put. You can’t get a drink without ordering her a pup cup, though!

Maizie is good with other animals. However we recommend that she only be with very low energy or other senior animals. She currently spends her day with another senior and a couch potato and they get along great. Maizie does not currently live with children. Due to her age and special needs we would recommend older children only. She is frightened of sudden movements and loud sounds. She is also not as cuddly as some children would like and will try to get away.

Maizie is a sassy senior that enjoys the simple things in life. She spends most of her days sleeping but she also like to get into trouble. Her foster mom has had to take down all the doggy steps as she will climb up on furniture and get “stuck” or fall and injure herself. When she gets stuck, she will bark until her human comes to her rescue. She will then reward them with very aggressive, very stinky kisses. She does have some spunk left in her and is definitely queen bee in her foster home. She will let her human know when she requires to be lifted onto the couch with them or carried to another room…or if you are eating a food she wants. Unfortunately for her, due to her kidney care diet, she can’t have a lot of people food. She can have some veggies, though. As mentioned previously, Maizie is a little blind. She can navigate herself in well-lit areas, but she does get lost at night or on dark/overcast days. She needs to be carried outside and back inside or she will wander aimlessly, somehow covering every square inch of the yard but never finding the door. Maizie is not a lovey dovey cuddler but she still appreciates human presence. She may not want to be touching her humans at all times, but she always wants to be in the same room with them.
