Good with Dogs: While Maize does interact with other dogs it needs to be with the right dog in a controlled environment. She has had one too many negative experiences and she can be hot or cold when it comes to meeting other dogs.
Good with Cats: Yes, but will chase if they run. She has lived with 3 cats. She now lives with one.
Good with Kids: No, too fearful

Meet Maize! Maize is a mix of breeds, but believed to be predominantly Chocolate Lab. She’s cuddly and has a very loving and silly personality. Sometimes it’s apparent that Maize lacks a little bit of confidence. She can be unsure of herself. Because of this, Maize is seeking a new family that is willing to give her the 3 T's (Time, Training, & TLC) to gain some confidence.

Maize enjoys walks and would love a yard to run around in! She thrives on regular exercise. The more she moves, the happier she is. Her favorite kind of toy is a hard toy or bone to chew. She does like squeaky toys too and hopefully she can be spoiled with lots of new ones in her forever home! She likes car rides and is a calm passenger.

Maize is a very smart girl. She knows many commands including sit, paw, down, spin, roll over, leave it, Get it (to pick something up that has dropped), hand (for her to hand you the picked-up object), touch (this is her recall command. If you hold your hand out to the side of your body and she will come back to you and touch her nose to your hand), Up up (if you need her to jump up on something, ex, getting into the car), stop (when on a walk to abruptly stop walking), let’s go (to get her to continue walking if she’s stopped). She knows not to pass through a door unless you tell her to. When you open the door she will wait until you say the command “ok” and tell her “go sniff” so she knows she can look around and pee and is off duty from the walk. She is housebroken and will ring a bell when she has to go into the backyard. If she doesn't have access to her bell, she will come and get you or stand near the exit.

And perhaps the cutest thing she does if she attempts to do anything naughty, like sniff through garbage that was left out on the floor (she will not seek it out), she will come to you and turn herself in afterwards. Not only will you love Maize as soon as you see her, but you’ll know right away you’ve got a new best friend!
