Maggie $99 ADOPTION FEE's Story
13 year old Maggie, born, 2012-10-13 was surrendered after her owner could no longer care for her, moving into assisted living.

She has been with this owner for 7 years. I'm not sure of her origins prior to. But it's sad Maggie, at 13 years old, needs to begin yet again.

Family & friends have their own pets and responsibilities so taking on 13 year old Maggie was not an option. This is a very common theme for seniors and their pets.

Maggie came with horrific teeth and desperately needed dental care. She had most of her teeth removed, as there was so much infection at the gum line, she was really struggling. She was in surgery for 2 hours and still had 8 teeth remaining that "could" have been removed, but it was in Maggie's best interest to wake her up from surgery as it wasn't safe to keep her under any longer. We will not be putting her under again to remove the remaining teeth. She has been started on antibiotics to clear up the infection and her remaining teeth should be okay - given her age.

She does have a scar on her eyeball from previous trauma but looks like it's healed fine. She's had medication on and off for the eyeball but our veterinarian doesn't feel she requires eye medication at this time. She also has some alopecia (more super thinning than missing), not unexpected for a senior dog.

Her bloodwork all came back great without concerns, so now that her dental is up to date I believe Maggie has some good years ahead.

Maggie weighs in at 6.7 KG / 14.5 pounds.

She does not do well with stairs, mostly because she's always lived in an apartment and never had to manage stairs according to her previous owners family. It could also be that she has some old girl joints making stairs not as easy as a pup could manage them.

Maggie would love nothing more than cuddling up with her person and staying perched there as long as possible. She doesn't have a lot of interest in going for walks or spending time in the foster's backyard. She'd much rather be snuggled up catching some zzzzz's.

Maggie is fine with dogs and cats but being she's a quiet senior girl, equal energy matched resident pets if any, would be best. She'd likely be happiest as a solo dog to get all the attention to herself.

Maggie, being a Bichon Frise/Poodle mix, will require regular grooming every couple months by a professional groomer and daily upkeep. You have to ensure you have grooming budgeted at approximately $150 for each groom. Her nails were quiet long on arrival, so we trimmed them back as best we could and she'll need regular nail trims to get them to a better length. We also trimmed up her face nicely while she was under for surgery.

Maggie is just an easy going senior gal, looking for a great adopter to take her through her retirement years.

FROM HER FOSTER:

Little Miss Maggie is the sweetest girl!

Behaviour:
Maggie is a total lapdog who just wants to eat, sleep, cuddle, and repeat. She follows us and Tayo (resident dog) around like a shadow.

We have not observed any separation anxiety; she naps by the door when we leave and wakes up sleepily upon our return. She can manage the 3-4 steps up into the house, but in general: not a fan of stairs needs to be carried upstairs to bed. If she is downstairs alone, she will let out a gentle whimper to remind us she's there.

Routine

She eats 1 to 1.5 cups of food daily, with morning and evening meal times. She reliably goes potty 20ā30 minutes after eating or drinking.

Maggie is very good at signalling her needs: a little whimper to go outside or walking over to her bowl for a drink. She is happy to sniff around the back garden or take a slow, easy walk around the block, moving through life at her own gentle pace, always with a smile and a tail wag.

She sleeps in her own bed in our room. Initially, she wanted to cuddle with Tayo in his bed, but she is now comfortable sleeping near him in hers. She's also fine if he moves to sleep elsewhere during the night.

A resident dog would be nice, but not at all a necessity for her.

------------------------------------

ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
