Meet Maggie
MARR covers Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Maggie is being fostered in NE currently. However, transportation is available for adoptions within our coverage area.
Maggie is a very loving dog who ADORES her people maybe just a little too much! She loves to cuddle right up against you, but also really values her "me time" and will give a quiet grumble if she prefers her space (primarily only with new people or while adjusting to new surroundings). She does great at home alone and has free reign (but greatly prefers the couch!). Maggie loves car rides, walks (we are up to 40+ min), and her daily treats! She also enjoys sitting out on the deck or in the grass getting some sun. She adores children and can interact with young kids, however, due to her guarding and protective nature, we recommend her adoptive home should not have children under 12. This lil lady does not like yappy, hyper dogs and has shown to prefer calm males. She has done great in a shared home with another male rottie, although it was for a relatively short period. She is not reactive to other dogs on the leash but will try to pull you toward them and whine as she wants to check them out. She LOVES her fosters "bonus" daughter age 10, and foster's boyfriend, but generally is a little slower to warm up around men.
Maggie is playful and loves to play Tug-O-War with her toys, she will grumble while playing but stops as soon as the playing stops. Maggie is protective of her home. She will raise her hackles at some new people entering the home and sometimes on walks, but is usually excited to meet them and relaxes pretty quickly (once she knows they are ok, she will check them out and ask for pets), and she barks occasionally at people passing in her yard.
Maggie is ok with pets on the top of her head and cheeks, but she doesn't like her mouth, eyes, ears, or overall face being "messed with," so she is working on muzzle training in case these areas need attention for medical reasons - she is making excellent progress!
Maggies perfect family would be with a quieter household or someone who works from home, is patient and allows her to warm up to them, is able to walk her daily, take her on car rides and has children over 12. Her new Adopter should have experience with resource guarding and be willing to work with her to manage those behaviors. She would do best in a home without stairs or minimal stairs, and either carpeted floor or lots of area rugs as she slips on hardwood floors. She will walk onto hard floors, but gets nervous and will try to back up off of them or run off, and has slipped and injured herself in the past. Maggie will follow you anywhere if you put her leash on. She is extremely attentive and is really a loving dog, she just has to be the one to initiate the love.
