Meet Maddox

Introducing Maddox!
Maddox is a 3yr old Cairn Terrier/Yorkshire Terrier/Mixed breed male, whom we have now neutered, updated his vaccinations and completed his full vetting and grooming.

Maddox is not a happy traveller and would not do well with a family who goes away weekends or for regular trips and definitely not as a snow bird traveller.

***MANDATORY: Maddox requires a family with previous dog ownership and training experience and knowledge of managing food resource guarding challenges. He has been bounced around far too often in his past due to people being drawn to his adorable face without taking into consideration how vital it is to keep him feeling safe and following appropriate guidelines around food.

Maddox should not live with another pet or children/grandchildren, due to his food resource guarding. He will require a savvy owner who is prepared to continue working with a positive method trainer to help him feel safer around food prep or eating and safely manage this. He has nipped when guarding food, though not broken skin and he does warn, so proper management and respect of his fears around food have been successful in his foster home.

This is easily managed with experience , monitoring his body language, providing respect of separated feeding areas for him and baby gating the kitchen during food prep. He is crate trained and will settle well while the family is eating to avoid any concerns at meal times.

We have Maddox on CBD oil which has greatly helped him with his anxiety around food areas but this is an assistive remedy, not a cure.
His fosters are rocking his training and are doing a fabulous job of setting him up for success around food by separating him during food prep/eating times to reduce stress and risks.

Maddox is very interested when he sees other dogs on walks, doesn't bark and shows happy tail wagging. He would do well with calm, respectful dog friends to visit and play with OUTSIDE and away from food. He will not do well with dogs visiting inside his home nor visiting other homes or workplaces.

Maddox does not guard people or furniture at all, loves his toys and tummy rubs, and is a sweet lovely boy who adores appropriate attention otherwise.

We had to remove all chewing-type toys because he was guarding those, yet he has no issues with soft toys or balls and will happily bring a soft toy to you and 'drop it' to play.

Maddox was a rock star for his grooming appt with zero issues of needing a muzzle, though he was petrified of the dryer so our groomer respected that of course and towel dried instead.

Maddox doesn't seem to show a preference between men, women or children upon meeting. Patience, respect and of course treats quickly reassures him and he has adored many people whom he has met both inside and outside of his home.
Knowing how to read his body language consistently and respectfully will set everyone up for success and the potential for a wonderful improvement in his confidence and training.

Maddox's new family must commit to attending positive method training classes to help set him up for success.

He has been attending training classes weekly to work on his social and leash walking skills and is an eager student who thrives on routine and consistency.

Adoption fee $450 plus $200 REFUNDABLE training deposit (refund of $200 will be issued once Maddox completes training with an approved positive method trainer with his forever family)

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions.

Any questions may be emailed, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.
