MACIE & DESIREE Terrier Mix Broomfield, CO

MACIE is an adorable mix of terrier and dachshund and more than likely a few other breeds. She is approximately 2 years of age. Macie came to RMPR from the deserts of Southern New Mexico. She was abandoned and alone after her owner died at 92 years of age. Macie was living with many other dogs at the owner's home in the rural desert location and was discovered lodged under the owner's home by rescuers. She was scared and pregnant and very unsure of her new fosters. Macie had to be trapped in
order to be rescued. Macie learned to trust the rescuers In NM and she had a litter of 7 puppies. Desire is one of them. The others have been adopted. Macie has been with RMPR for 4 months now. She was not trusting in her foster home at first. She still does not like strangers until they are introduced, but once they are, she loves them. She is generous and sweet and very intelligent. She is one of the best mother dogs we as a rescue have encountered in 10 years. She is housebroken, obedient, and learns quickly. When she first came to RMPR she hid under a curio cabinet in the foster home and would use that as her " safe base " now she uses a couch to sleep and survey her surroundings. She is not leash trained but will leash up and she is very social with other dogs. She had to learn to share attention and she is quite adept at learning quickly with gentle positive reinforcement she thrives, but loud noises or voices will frighten her. She is learning what cats are and is not sure about them. She would do well in a home without small children, under 12 years of age. She likes women but is hesitant with loud and large men.

DESIREE is a beautiful puppy of 4 months of age. RMPR received her and her litter mates when she was merely 5 weeks of age. Upon turning 8 weeks the entire litter was spayed. Desiree didn‘t do well with the protocol drugs used and died and was resuscitated. She was then placed in an ER under oxygen. She has visited the vet 3 times since her episode and her recovery is remarkable. She had to learn to walk, run and eat on her own... and she did! She has been with us for 4 months and has learned to interact and socialize with many dogs and loves to play. She loves her mother, Macie who has the ultimate patience to play and interact with Desi. Desiree is affectionate and social but some things come slower for her. She is a beautiful small dog with much
love to give. Due to her circumstances, we will ONLY adopt Desiree with her mother Macie. We at RMPR are looking for a home that understands and loves dogs as they are, and can accept whatever love and happiness they will share. A person that understands it is always about the dog and nothing else. We love Macie and Desi and know in the right household they will thrive. Please NO cats or small children.
