Meet Luther *Nka: Gator*
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Luther is the sweetest boy. He doesn't get on furniture, likes cats, is good with the other dogs in his foster home, is crate-trained and potty-trained. He is great with kids. He loves being around his people and loves cuddles and pets. He enjoys fetch and walks. Luther is 3 years old, well-behaved, and cuddly. He is a little timid when he first meets new people, but warms up quickly and then he will give you all the love! He loves to play catch, go for walks, and is always down to relax and snuggle with his humans. His dog bed is one of his favorite places and he enjoys going in his crate as well. Luther gets along well with other dogs of all sizes - he just loves any type of playmate! He also enjoys just about any activity with his family. He is very smart and trainable, and loves learning and trying out new things. He knows sit, lay down, stay, drop it, back up, and wait. He will wait to be released to eat his food (and treats, even if you lay the treats on his paws)! He loves any type of chew toy and especially loves a Kong filled with frozen peanut butter. Luther is well-behaved at home and in public. He is a sweet, patient, and fun dog who is good around young kids. Luther is an extremely lovable guy who will make a wonderful addition to a very lucky family. Luther is a great catch!Luther's adoption fee is $225, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.
