ABOUT: Meet our very sweetest girl, Luna!

While her eyes and coloring may make her look older than she is, her personality will prove you otherwise - in all the best ways! Luna is the sweetest cuddle bug in the whole world, and wants nothing more than to stay in on the couch with you and snuggle you in bed. She has striking amber eyes, a beautiful brindle coat, and a very waggy tail that she uses to communicate all her feelings with. We think of her as a velcro dog, always wants to be attached to you… preferably right in your lap.

Luna has a medium energy level, and enjoys her play time but definitely enjoys her cuddle and chill time too! She likes to accompany you on adventures, and will even go jogging with you, but she is VERY speedy, so hoomans will have to keep up with her. So if you're looking for a companion who will encourage you to go outside just as much as they encourage you to stay in on the couch: Luna is your girl!

Luna is super dog friendly, and has made many friends of all sizes in her different foster homes. Sometimes she forgets she is a big gal, so little doggos will have to be fairly dog savvy for playdates or siblings. Luna is friendly with people too, but, she can be a bit weary with new ones, particularly men. She is not aggressive or reactive, but she does shudder and hide if people come at her quickly - essentially has a flight response. But if she knows you will not pressure her personal space and you give her some treats, she warms right up. We are so proud of her because Luna has gotten much more social since coming to Portland, and has even attended a couple of Christmas parties (and was the star of the show of course). She is understandably highly food motivated, therefore very easy to train, and able to sniff out even the tiniest scraps of food you dropped under the furniture. She can have some tummy sensitivity though, so just have to be mindful with her food and treats.

Luna walks great on a leash, is potty trained. She only has accidents in new places when she is very excited and has too many zoomies, but other than that, she is good to go! She has learned a few commands including “sit”, “stay”, and “look.” Luna is crate trained, but she is such a lady that she usually can be left out of the crate when you aren’t home, without displays of destructive tendencies (just make sure the food is out of reach). Luna is a very rare gem, and would make an excellent companion for just about anyone! Her big body is equivalent to her big big heart!

Luna was found in Mexico in November of 2021 by one of our volunteers who had been feeding her on the streets for a few months and brought her to the vet when she noticed her being very lethargic. It turned out that she was suffering from pyometra. Luna was fostered in Mexico while she was treated, and afterward was placed in a boarding facility while hoping and waiting to find her forever home. 3 months passed, and no adoption applications for poor baby girl. When we finally found a foster to take her in in Portland, unfortunate during her pre-freedom flight check up, we discovered that she had TVT (an awful type of cancer). She remained in Mexico for another 8 weeks and went through chemotherapy - and she was so brave and strong! Finally she was able to catch her ride to the PNW as a cancer survivor with a clean bill of health (and no further treatment required). She is currently in foster care in Portland, but still… no applications. She has been with her foster mom for about 4 months now - the longest foster we have ever had. Luna deserves the absolute best, please help us find this girl her furever home!
