LUKE HAS JUST 3 LEGS BECAUSE HE'D BEEN HIT BY A CAR AND ONE LEG WAS SEVERELY INJURED AND NOT ABLE TO BE SAVED. HE STILL GETS AROUND WELL!

5/242015: Luke is wonderful Shepherd/Chow mix. He's about 8 years old. He was brought to us by KCK Animal Control after being hit by a car. We weren't able to save his front left leg, but he's doing well as a 3-legger and gets around nicely. Luke has many fans here at HSGKC — he looks like he's had a very rough life, yet he's an incredibly sweet guy and easily wins people over with his charm!

Luke is a mild-mannered companion. He comes to many of our satellite adoption events and enjoys meeting new people and just hanging out. He'd do fine living with other dogs as long as they're fairly mellow and mild mannered, too. If you have a dog, we'd ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Luke to see if they like each other. He does need a home without cats. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys short walks. He also likes to be brushed.

Luke weighs 56 lbs and has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He tested positive for heartworms and has just finished up heartworm treatment. He's healthy now and ready for his new home!

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
