Meet Luke

One look at Luke’s sad eyes, and we couldn’t resist taking him into rescue. Animal control had nabbed him because he was either neglected or abandoned and we knew we could give him a better future. A mix, we saw a lot of corgi in Luke’s head, expression and coloring.

We were originally told Luke was around 5. When we went to register his microchip we found out that it has been dispensed 11 years ago, Luke has the energy of a much younger dog; he is happy to play and loves a 2-3 mile walk. When he gets home, a nap is definitely in order. At other times, Luke will hang out on the porch or get comfortable on the couch or a pile of cozy laundry, if you’ll let him! Often, he is simply trotting around the house, with his tail wagging and a toy in his mouth looking for someone to play with him.

Luke’s favorite things are hanging out with his people, playing with his Kong, and eating and destroying squeaky toys. He seems to do better interacting with other male dogs, especially small breeds. When it comes to humans, he doesn’t discriminate. Garbage man? UPS guy? Stranger at the door? Luke is fine with them all, even when the doorbell rings. He seems to enjoy playing with children as well, so we would adopt Luke to a home with children 6 years or older.

It was obvious that Luke didn’t come into foster knowing how to behave as a household member. He initially marked but has moved past that behavior and is now housetrained. He also experienced some separation anxiety but now finds his crate, which is stockpiled with a comfy pillow and blanket, a great place to decompress. His fosters have taught him several commands, such as “kennel,” “potty,” and “walk” and he’s open to learning more. Especially if lots of praise and his favorite treat, baby carrots, feature in the training session.

While he is on the quieter side, Luke’s foster mom reports that his tail is always wagging unless he’s concentrating on something. He’s a happy, sweet natured boy and now that he’s learned how good family living is, all he needs is his forever home!

Luke is available for adoption in the states of NC, SC, or GA only. His adoption fee is $125.
