Meet Lucy True

Lucy is a young 1-2 yr old Wire Hair Terrier Mix weighing 10-12 lbs that was dumped at a lawn care company in Central Louisiana. She was very leary to come to the people trying to rescue her but we soon found that she was highly food motivated.  Lucy has to build your trust and is initially standoffish of you. She will need you to let her come to you and when she’s ready she will be in your lap.  Reaching down or towards her from a standing position frightens her , again until she is trusting. She was heartworm positive and had to go through treatment. She was negative for microfillaria and received a Proheart 12.   She does not like her mouth bothered so she was given her meds via canned puppy food.  I tried to get her DNA from her mouth and lost her trust for a few days and she didn’t want to be held by me.  She loves soft food but will also eat kibbles.  She has a hefty appetite and has gained a couple of pounds.  She has been in a foster home with 5 other dogs for 3 months. She particularly likes playing with a much bigger 8 month old cur pup and they play tug-a-war, wrestle, and chase toys. She seems much more comfortable with men but will be a lap baby with the female foster and slowly trusting. She loves belly and chest rubs in your lap. She will be best in a home with no kids or older dog savvy teens.

Adoption details:
In some instances, a meet and greet is not possible before adoption unless we have a foster home in New England available. Available for a Meeting confirms the dog is in a NE Foster home and available for a meeting in the city state provided.  Most times our dogs get adopted before a foster home becomes available - and if so, they go straight to adopters home. Foster parents talk to adopters and feel confident that this will be a match before our dogs are transported up. Also if by some chance it is not a match we have a safety net in place as we ask that adopters to let us know that it is not a match and we direct you to take the dog to a foster home or boarding kennel once that is arranged. If necessary, we will ask you to foster the dog until a foster home can be arranged.
Transport details:Rescue Road Trips (rescueroadtrips.com), Pets LLC (petsllc.net) or CAFA Transport will deliver our precious pups on commercial rescue animal transport to designated locations.  The fee is 185.00 which IS INCLUDED in your adoption fee already.**Rescue Road Trips, was featured on The Today Show - view it at http://www.today.com/video/today/55034556#55034556

MA and NH RESIDENTS:
If you are a Massachusetts or New Hampshire residence, an additional fee of $125.00 will apply due to State quarantine fee requirements. If the dog is in a foster home in MA or NH, this fee will be added in the adoption fee regardless of where the adopters home is located making the total adoption fee $675.00 for puppies and adults $500.00 for Seniors, otherwise the full adoption fee for all other states is $550.00 for puppies and adults and $375.00 for seniors. This includes a 48 quarantine, recheck by a MA licensed veterinarian, and issued a MA health certificate.
