Lucy's Story

Meet Lucy!

Lucy is a 7-year-old gray and white Pitbull mix who weighs about 43 pounds. This sweet girl has been through so much in her life, but she hasn’t let it dull her gentle, loving spirit.

Lucy’s journey is a heartbreaking one. She was first brought to the Kern Animal Services shelter as a stray in July, then adopted only to be surrendered to the Bakersfield Shelter just a week later. Her former owner admitted she had been kept in a hot garage without being let out, and when she tried to escape, he decided she was “too much trouble.” To make matters worse, he attempted to adopt another dog the very same day. Thankfully, the shelter staff knew her story and sent him away.

Despite all of this, Lucy has only shown kindness and resilience. She quickly became a staff favorite at the shelter for her sweet, affectionate nature. She loves making friends with people and dogs alike, and she soaks up every bit of attention she can get. It’s clear she hasn’t known much care as her body carries small scars, she’s a little overweight, and she likely had multiple litters in her past but all she wants now is to be loved.

Lucy is spayed, vaccinated, and ready for a new beginning. She deserves a family who will treat her with patience, kindness, and respect, giving her the chance to just be a dog for the rest of her life. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle soul who will return your love tenfold, Lucy may be the one for you.

Special Appeal: Senior dogs like Lucy often get overlooked, but they have just as much love to give, if not more. Lucy doesn’t need much beyond a safe home, a soft bed, and a family who will cherish her. After everything she has endured, she deserves to finally know what it feels like to be someone’s beloved dog.
