Lucy is looking for a new home! Lucy is a 2 to 3 year old Akita that we adopted from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Alabama. When visiting with her, she was very timid at first, but after a few treats and some head scratches she was ready to come home with us. We can not keep Lucy due to territorial issues with our other dog. When meeting with our husky, she was very sweet and showed no signs of aggression. She was also very gentle with our cat. The next day after bringing her home, she attacked our husky over a dog bed. I tried to break up the fight and Lucy unintentionally bit my hand while trying to reach my husky. We separated the dogs. Lucy seemed very upset afterwards as though she realized she hurt me.
After keeping them separated for a week, we slowly started letting them interact again with Lucy on a leash. Several times since, Lucy has barked or growled at Maddie over little things. We feel as though we will never be able to let Lucy alone with our dog or cat out of fear of her attacking them due to territorial reasons. Keeping them separate long term in our apartment is not an option. We feel that that we have no other option but to find her another home that does not have any other animals.
This deeply saddens us both because Lucy is an absolute angel. If we didn't have our other pets' safety to consider we would keep her. She is friendly to other people, especially women. She's very affectionate and one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met. All she wants is to be near her owner, get plenty of snuggles, and a soft place to sleep. She's crate trained, potty trained, highly intelligent, easy to walk on a leash, and very obedient. She is calm and easily entertained. She isn't destructive to furniture or other house items. She would adapt well to apartment or house life. She shows no signs of aggression to other dogs on neutral ground such as walking trails.
