Meet Lucia

Lucia is sweet and loving. She likes to follow you around the house. She is an awesome dog once she had had time to adjust to her new home and surroundings.

Initially she is shy/timid and is unsure of new people and new surroundings. She shows this by shying away and avoiding new people. She does not bark and has no aggression. She just puts her ears back and looks worried. She took about 3 days to get used to us and not shy away when I reached down to pet her unexpectedly.

Lucia has the energy level that I would expect of a young dog (she is around 2 years old and weighs about 45 pounds). She likes to fetch balls and play chase or tug-o-war with my dog. She loves a toy that squeaks but also enjoys chewing on a BeneBone or horn.

Lucia is pretty well behaved. She does not jump or bark (ok maybe she has barked once or twice... when trying to get my dog’s attention to play). She does like to pick up our shoes but drops them easily - she has trained us to keep our shoes put away. She occasionally has started to chew on soft things, like the dog bed, sheet covering our couch, etc... She typically does this when she needs something. The things that have resolved this behavior has been to take her out to use the bathroom, play with her because she is bored and/or has energy to get out. If it is at night it’s like she is an over tired to toddler who won’t let herself go to sleep. At night this is solved by giving her something to chew, like a Kong with peanut butter or other soft stuffing or a pigs ear and putting her in her crate. She chews the yummy treat up and goes to sleep. This behavior hasn’t happened a ton but it has occurred a few times and its just a matter of her human knowing what she needs.

Lucia is house trained and crate trained. She gets along with other dogs but I do not know how she would do with cats as ours have stayed away.

When dealing with transition to her routine Lucia may chew up her dog bed in her crate. This occurred as we transitioned from being home for the holidays/distance learning to going back to work and school. Now 3 days in to the new routine she is fine. She didn’t completely destroy it but did rip it up a bit.

Lucia would do best in a home without young children, as I think their erratic movement and high energy would intimidate her. She would be happiest in a home with another dog. She often looks to my dog for a cue on how to behave or react. She would like a somewhat active family who will give her the exercise she needs. At this age she is not a sit around the house all day type of dog.

Lucia needs routine, familiarity and calmness. She would love someone who would give her time to check things out, get comfortable and show you how awesome she is.
